Segregation of sand-rubber chips mixtures subject to vertical tapping under confinement

Mixtures of rigid sand particles and soft rubber (rubber chips) are prepared submitted to vertical taps in a confined cell investigate their propensity segregate. The mixture evolution is characterized by means image analysis slices obtained gelification technique. We show that, case equally sized particles, the tend migrate towards bottom system. Yet, segregation not complete reduced when fraction increased. Also it competes with size induced if chips larger than particles. A tendency form horizontal clusters clearly observed increases number taps. This smaller weakly influenced grain difference. Both formation heterogeneities prevented adding small amount water.
